This will:

  • fill a missing gap within Newark’s outer loop
  • support further regeneration

Increasing connectivity for road users

The investment will improve connectivity and reduce traffic by:

  • providing drivers with an alternative route to the Newark bypass
  • linking the A46 at Farndon to the A1 at Fernwood

The benefits for Newark

The road improvements will help support the following upgrades:

  • a modern employment space
  • new park and cycleways
  • a new care home
  • 2,651 homes

Councillor David Lloyd, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council and Co-Chair of Newark Town Deal Board, highlights the benefits of the build:

[these] solid proposals support our vision for Newark’s future, improving both transport and growth in our district.

Richard Coppell, Group Development Director at Urban and Civic, is delighted that the project has secured funding. He emphasises the Southern Link Road is:

vital infrastructure [to] support local economic growth, jobs and provide more homes.

He adds that the new community will be able to

buy a home in Middlebeck and benefit from access to green space and road connectivity.
