Over £12.5 million to regenerate Newhaven
Lewes District Council secured over £12.5 million from the Levelling Up Fund to regenerate Newhaven.
The funding will help:
- establish the town as a maritime centre of excellence
- protect Newhaven’s fishing industry
Protecting Newhaven’s fishing industry
Plans to rejuvenate the local fishing trade include:
- providing new fish landing stages to accommodate vessels
- building a new centre of excellence for seafood processing
Activating the local economy
The investment will:
- create a new restaurant and community destination on the West Beach promenade area
- stimulate the local economy by retaining spending in Newhaven
With a lively fish market and new restaurant, the town will:
- increase footfall in the town centre
- attract new visitors
