Over £9 million to bring opportunity to Cumbernauld (Levelling Up Fund 2)

A Levelling Up Fund investment of £9.2 million will help improve opportunities in one of Lanarkshire’s biggest towns.

A new community space for Cumbernauld

Funding has allowed North Lanarkshire Council to acquire a shopping centre, known as The Centre Cumbernauld. This will be demolished, along with other surrounding buildings, including former office building, Fleming House. Once demolished, they will be redeveloped to create a mixed-use Town Hub that will be at the heart of the community. Plans for the new and accessible hub could include:

  • schools and early years facilities
  • commercial space
  • health and leisure facilities
  • community areas

Supporting Cumbernauld’s Town Vision

Redevelopment of the town centre buildings will support North Lanarkshire’s Cumbernauld Town Vision.

The new hub will:

  • bring education, community space, employment and homes into the heart of Cumbernauld’s town centre
  • increase footfall into the town centre
  • act as a catalyst for wider regeneration of the town centre

Pamela Humphries, Chief Officer (Place) at North Lanarkshire Council said,

We will work with residents and businesses to redesign a modern, vibrant town centre that meets the needs of its communities, integrating local services, homes, commercial, and amenity spaces, transport and digital infrastructure.
