Southend’s £19.9 million infrastructure upgrades

Southend was allocated £19.9 million from the Levelling Up Fund to support local facilities and boost the tourism economy.

Renovation of Leigh Port

Plans for the funding will improve Leigh Port by:

  • resurfacing the wharf to make it safe for locals and visitors
  • dredging the area beside the quay wall and channel
  • constructing a quay wall frontage around the port
  • improving access to the site

Other infrastructure improvements in Southend

Other plans for the funding include:

  • investing in hospitality and visitor areas
  • refurbishing Cliffs Pavilion entertainment venues

Funding will also support essential maintenance and flood prevention measures across the:

  • wider seafront
  • Marine Parade
  • town centre
