An announcement was made on 19th November 2025 to advise users of a potential data issue impacting Access to Work approvals statistics. Following investigation of this data issue, approvals volumes have been revised, and the 2025 release of the statistics was updated with these revised figures on 29th January 2026. The revision impacts any approval volume totals or breakdowns between financial years ending March 2019 and March 2025 that include the ‘Support Worker’ element. If you have received a disproportionate cost response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request for impacted approvals data during this time period, you may now resubmit that request and expect to receive a response within the usual time limits.

These statistics are about 2 specific parts of the Access to Work customer journey:

  • approval of Access to Work provision
  • payment of Access to Work provision

They show:

  • the number of people who had Access to Work provision approved
  • number of customers who received at least one Access to Work payment
  • Access to Work expenditure
  • average annual payment per customer for Access to Work provision

They are broken down by:

  • financial year
  • type of provision
  • primary medical condition
  • country or region
  • age
  • gender
  • employer size
  • employment status

Release Strategy 

The Access to Work official statistics: release strategy acts as the formal notice of changes to future releases of the Access to Work official statistics publication.   

The strategy describes the potential release of new statistics within the publications and announces any other developments.  

The release strategy is not a static document; it will be updated as plans develop to provide users with details of latest developments.  

The development of these statistics follows the Department for Work and Pensions’ statistical work programme.
