Anaerobe reference unit (ARU): Cardiff
ARU is the reference laboratory for anaerobe identification of Bacteroides, Clostridia, Fusobacteria, Actinomyces spp.
The core services provided by the anaerobe reference unit (ARU) are:

anaerobe identification including Bacteroides, Clostridia, Fusobacteria, Actinomyces spp., and other closely related genera

susceptibility testing of clinically relevant anaerobes including confirmation of unusual resistance phenotypes

surveillance of antibiotic resistance in anaerobes

Clostridium difficile ribotyping (the C. difficile ribotyping reference laboratory is now in Leeds)
