Capacity Market parameters for auctions taking place in Winter 2020

The government has published the parameters for the next Capacity Market auctions to ensure the UK has sufficient capacity to meet electricity demand.

Documentation includes:

  • letters from the Interim Minister of State for Energy and Clean Growth to National Grid Electricity System Operator (NG:ESO) of determination to hold Capacity Market auctions for delivery years 2020 to 2021, 2022 to 2023 and 2023 to 2024
  • letter from Interim Minister of State for Energy and Clean Growth to NG:ESO setting out the parameters (including the volume of capacity to be secured and de-rating factors for interconnectors) for the T-1 auction for 2020 to 2021 and the T-4 auction for 2023 to 2024, and the provisional parameters for the T-3 auction for 2022 to 2023, should it be scheduled
  • the Panel of Technical Experts report: the final auction targets are based on the advice provided by National Grid in their Electricity Capacity Report, which is scrutinised by the Panel of Technical Experts
  • a report by Poyry on de-rating interconnectors
  • the Auction Monitor’s reports for the most recent Capacity Market auction, the summer T-1 auction for 2019 to 2020.
