Cognitive systems
Foresight project setting out a vision for the future of research in natural and artificial cognitive systems.
Cognitive systems are natural or artificial information processing systems, including those responsible for:
- perception
- learning
- reasoning
- decision-making
- communication
- action.
This project explored the recent advances in neuroscience and computer science to produce a vision for the future development of cognitive systems.
The aims of the project were to:
- examine recent progress in biological and artificial cognition
- produce a 10 to 20 year vision for both fields
- identify the opportunities for sharing knowledge between fields
- communicate the conclusions to a wide audience
The project commissioned a series of research reviews considering cognitive systems from the different perspectives of neuroscience and computer science.
