Highly Protected Marine Areas protect our diverse species and habitats around the English Coast.

Highly Protected Marine Areas (HPMAs) are areas of the sea around the English coast that protect marine ecosystems. They protect all species, habitats and associated ecosystem processes.

We designated three HPMAs on 14 June 2023.
