Independent Review of Prevent

During the passage of the Counter Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019 on 12 February 2019, the government committed to carrying out an independent review of Prevent. The report, including any recommendations of the review, must be submitted to the Secretary of State for the Home Department, as required by the act.
William Shawcross was appointed as the new Independent Reviewer of Prevent on 26 January 2021. The independent review will consider the UK’s strategy for protecting people vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism, and will make recommendations for the future. An updated Terms of Reference for the Review were published on 22 March 2021.
