RPC casework guide for stakeholders
This guidance document summarises how the RPC undertakes its casework function.
RPC Case histories
RPC case histories provide practical guidance, with case study examples, of how the better regulation framework has been applied by the committee. Our case histories intends to provide a guide for departments and regulators in their preparation of impact assessments, by examining past cases.
RPC Proportionality guidance
Proportionality in impact assessments (IAs) and post-implementation reviews (PIRs) is about ensuring the appropriate level of resources is invested in gathering and analysing evidence on the impacts of a policy.
RPC Small and Micro Business Assessment (SaMBA) guidance
The Small and Micro Business Assessment (SaMBA), which is a requirement for impact assessments (IAs) and post-implementation reviews (PIRs), must ensure that a robust and evidence-based analysis is conducted on the impacts of a regulatory policy on small and micro businesses (SMBs).
RPC short guidance notes
This collection includes short guidance notes on specific appraisal or better regulation framework subjects. They complement the RPC’s main guidance documents.
The RPC scrutiny process

How does the RPC work with departments and submissions?
This document contains the Regulatory Policy Committee’s engagement offer to departments and information on what should be submitted to the RPC. Specifically, it sets out the RPC’s ‘offer’ to departments to help: improve evidence and analysis; and to support their policy proposals in a way that is consistent with a robust independent scrutiny function.
