State Pension age review 2023

This collection brings together publications related to the second review of the State Pension as required by the Pensions Act 2014.

This was published under the 2022 to 2024 Sunak Conservative government

The Pensions Act 2014 requires the government to regularly review State Pension age. The first Review of State Pension age concluded in 2017.

The government announced the second Review of State Pension age in December 2021. This review has considered whether the rules around pensionable age are appropriate, based on the latest life expectancy data and other evidence.

As set out in the 2014 Act, the Secretary of State commissioned two reports to contribute to the evidence considered during this review:

  • a report from the Government Actuary’s Department to examine the latest life expectancy projections data

  • a report on other relevant factors to consider what metrics the government should take into account when setting State Pension age, led by Baroness Neville-Rolfe DBE, CMG.
