National Digital Twin Programme (NDTP)

The NDTP is the government-led programme committed to growing national capability in digital twinning technologies and processes throughout the country.

This research and development programme:

A primary purpose of the programme is to develop the standards, processes, and tools that will build the foundation of a functioning market in digital twins and create growth.

This work will enable the creation of digital twins that are:

  • safe
  • secure
  • trustworthy
  • ethical

It will also ensure that digital twins:

  • can exchange appropriate information
  • can adapt and evolve over time and be developed
  • can be used and maintained in a sustainable way

The programme will ensure that digital twins use technology and processes that are accessible to any organisation, whether from the public or private sector, irrespective of size.

Guidance

The demonstrator programme

This programme is being tested in real world situations through the NDTP demonstrator programme. In particular, this work is looking at how digital twin-related technologies and processes can:

  • support understanding of the feasibility, and delivery, of policies
  • improve the management and optimisation of assets and eco-systems throughout their lifecycles
  • improve our ability to plan for and respond effectively to events
  • improve our ability to analyse, learn from and adapt to changing circumstances

The demonstration work is divided into phases. The learning from each one improves the process for succeeding phases.

It helps us to ensure:

  • our solutions are versatile, scalable and adoptable
  • we challenge our assumptions
  • design digital solutions are also intuitive and inclusive, regardless of where they are applied in the future
