Detail of outcome

Outcome setting out the analysis of the consultation responses and next steps. We will:

  • trial the Streamlined Residential Blight scheme
  • vary safeguarding policy, meaning we are not obliged to acquire property that is only affected by the oversailing of a construction crane’s boom and, therefore, may decline blight notices in these circumstances
  • continue analytical work and research on the variation to the need to sell scheme as was proposed, but will not implement that variation now or imminently

The outcome was released on 8 February 2022.

In May 2023, research on public attitudes about a possible variation to the HS2 need to sell property scheme was published. The Department for Transport is not proposing any changes to the scheme as a result of this report.
