The government’s response includes proposals to support an Employers’ Liability Tracing Office, a support scheme for people with mesothelioma, scheme levies, compensation levels and timing.

Consultation description

This consultation sought responses on proposals to improve support for people who need to trace Employers’ Liability Insurance to access compensation for work-related accidents and diseases in Great Britain.

Its main purpose was to consider 2 proposals: first the establishment of an Employers’ Liability Tracing Office (ELTO) to manage an electronic database of employers’ liability insurance policies; secondly, the establishment of an Employers’ Liability Insurance Bureau (ELIB) to provide a fund of last resort enabling those unable to trace an Employers’ Liability (EL) insurance policy to claim compensation.

This consultation is now closed. It ran from 10 February 2010 to 5 May 2010.
