We received 30 responses to this consultation. We have considered the comments received and produced an updated draft code of practice for the welfare of pigs.

The draft code was placed in Parliament on 9 September 2019. If there are no objections from Parliament (after 40 sitting days), we will arrange for it to come into force.

Detail of feedback received

We received 30 responses to this consultation. We’re considering these views and have been working closely with key stakeholders across the pig sector to finalise the new code. We expect to publish the summary of responses alongside the final code of practice for the welfare of pigs in summer 2019.

We want to know what you think of our draft statutory code of practice for the welfare of pigs. The code of practice is for England only. The code provides improved, up-to-date guidance on the current legislation and reflects the latest scientific and veterinary knowledge.
