Consultation description

We want to know what you think about our proposal to improve the definition of a portable battery. We propose setting weight limits to make it clear that a portable battery “can be hand-carried by an average person without difficulty”.

The change will remove the current 4kg to 10kg “grey area”.

The other factors that are used to define a battery will not be affected by this proposed change. Producers, treatment operators and exporters should consider the full range of factors when deciding if a battery is portable or industrial.
