The UK government, the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government, and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) will now put in place the UK Best Available Techniques (BAT) system.

That includes initiating the review of the Tranche 1 BAT sectors.

Regulators will be contacting relevant trade associations and setting up technical working groups shortly. The Standards Council and the Regulators Group are setting up the Advisory Board and will communicate about coming steps in due course.

Consultation description

We want to know what you think about our proposed approach for deciding the ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) for tackling industrial emissions following the UK’s exit from the EU. We intend to work openly with industry, using evidence to develop BAT which will be used in environmental permitting for certain industrial activities.

We would particularly like to hear your views on:

  • the proposed organisation and governance process
  • public participation
  • scrutiny
  • policies on implementing BAT
  • how the process will be evaluated
