Consultation description

The College of Policing is seeking views from the public and across policing on new guidance that will accompany it’s recently launched public and personal safety training.

The new public and personal safety training is already improving consistency across forces. Early evaluations show it is equipping officers better than ever before to deal with the challenges they face.

Authorised professional practice (APP) is the official source of professional practice for policing and we have now developed APP to support the training, providing a national standard for police training in this area. The APP aims to ensure forces in England and Wales are training their officers and staff consistently and to the same high standards the public rightly expect.

It includes guidance on contact time, minimum trainer numbers, roles and responsibilities.
