Consultation description

Overview

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is responsible for maintaining and updating the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC). SOC was introduced in 1990, with a major revision in 2000 and a minor revision in 2010. We are investigating a potential minor revision to the classification for SOC2020 and are asking you which areas of SOC2010 should be reviewed.

ONS is also interested to know about your use of the National Statistics Socio-economic classification (NS-SEC), which is derived using SOC and other labour market information. We would be grateful if respondents would answer 4 questions in relation to NS-SEC as part of this consultation.

How to respond

• read through the consultation document • you can respond as an individual or as an organisation • tell us as much as you can about how and why you use SOC2010 and NS-SEC
