Consultation description
This consultation sought views on the Department for Transport’s draft statutory instrument that implements Directive 2009/20/EC. Under this directive, owners of seagoing ships of 300 gross tonnage and above are required to maintain insurance or other financial security to cover the vast majority of third party maritime claims up to the limits of liability that are established by the International Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims. The directive entered into force across the EU on 1 January 2012.
