Consultation description

The government has published a summary of responses to the forced marriage consultation that sought views on how we might implement the criminalisation of a breach of a forced marriage protection order and whether to criminalise forced marriage.

There were strong arguments both for and against the creation of a new offence, however after listening very carefully to all views we have decided to make forcing someone to marry a criminal offence.
