Detail of outcome

We published the response to the HMCTS Welsh Language Scheme consultation 2022 on 1 March 2023. The consultation provided us with a number of suggestions for improvements which we’ve incorporated into our Welsh Language Scheme. We’ve published the updated Scheme alongside the response.

Consultation description

View this consultation in Welsh

In the administration of justice in Wales, we have adopted the principle that we will treat both Welsh and English language equally.

This consultation relates to our Welsh Language Scheme. The first consultation on the scheme was published in 2013 following the creation of HMCTS in 2010 (prior to this the Courts Service and the Tribunals Service had their own respective Welsh Language Schemes). The second consultation was published in December 2017. This is the third consultation.

The HMCTS Welsh Language Scheme covers the work of our corporate headquarters, the Court and Tribunal Service Centres and the National Business Centres.

In the delivery of our Welsh language services in Wales, we work closely with the police, Crown Prosecution Service, HM Prisons and Probation Service, the Youth Justice Service, CAFCASS Wales, the legal professions and both the full-time and lay judiciary.
