Detail of outcome

We have reviewed the responses to the consultation. We have also analysed the impacts that will be brought about by the introduction of next-generation digital tachographs, required by Regulation (EU) 2016/799 Annex 1C.

The EU Regulation will supercede our proposed changes and it would not be sensible to proceed.

Consultation description

Approved Tachograph Centres (ATCs) install, calibrate and inspect tachographs, which record information about driving time, speed and distance.

This consultation seeks views on:

  • stopping the requirement for ATCs to offer analogue tachograph calibration
  • allowing smaller sites to be used
  • making changes to streamline the ATC manual

The changes are intended to remove unnecessary burden on centres, so they can improve the service they offer to their customers.
