Detail of outcome
This document summarises the responses received to the consultation and sets out how the government plans to take forward each of the matters covered in the consultation.
The local government pension scheme is a statutory scheme established under the Public Sector Pensions Act 2013. Its rules and benefits are set out in regulations. Recently there have been a number of legal challenges to those regulations on grounds that they were not consistent with the human rights of those affected by them.
The consultation proposed some changes to the scheme to accommodate judgements already made and to give some flexibility to respond to potential future developments. We also took this opportunity to make a technical amendment to an earlier Scheme which is required to ensure that it functions as intended and in line with existing government policy. Responses were carefully taken on board and improved the final regulations.
