Detail of outcome

Our Strengthening Statutory Sick Pay consultation asked:

  • employers
  • employees
  • trade unions
  • stakeholders
  • members of the public

what the percentage rate for those earning up to the flat rate of Statutory Sick Pay should be. We are grateful for all the responses we received to the consultation, which we considered in detail.

We now plan to set this percentage rate as 80% of normal weekly earnings, which will apply where 80% of an employee’s normal weekly earnings is less than the flat rate. This will be set in law through a Government amendment to the Employment Rights Bill.
