Detail of outcome
We have now opened a new consultation on proposals for a lorry area at Stanford West.
We received a very large response from the public with a total of over 1279 written or online responses received and over 1000 people attending the public information exhibitions. Most responses were in the form of written responses (online/written questionnaires, written correspondence and e-mails).
Highways England will provide a report on the consultation the Department for Transport. It is anticipated that the Secretary of State will make an announcement on the way forward in the summer of 2016.
Original consultation
Consultation description
Delays at the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel, for example due to severe weather, cause queues of lorries along the M20 (Operation Stack). This has a knock-on effect for roads in Kent and has proved unsatisfactory to residents, local businesses and lorry drivers.
In the 2015 Autumn Statement, the government set aside funds for a permanent lorry waiting area and Highways England now seeks your views.
