Detail of outcome

We received 213 responses from a range of stakeholders, including:

  • farmers
  • businesses
  • trade associations
  • farmers unions
  • public bodies
  • NGO and coalition groups
  • individual members of the public

The findings will be used by UK government, Welsh government, Scottish government, and the Northern Ireland Executive as we further consider policy in this area, including the role of government policy to encourage uptake of these products.

Further details on this are outlined within the response.

Summary

We’re asking for evidence to help us understand more about giving feed products to livestock that can reduce methane emissions.

Call for evidence description

Cows and sheep are the main cause of methane emissions from farms. Introducing feed products that reduce methane to livestock diets may have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We want to know:

  • if you’re aware of the role of feed additives in farming, and of feed products that reduce methane
  • if you’re aware of anything that could prevent these products being introduced
  • how government can work with farmers and agri-businesses to encourage the use of feed products like these
