The guides, created as part of this consultation, for:

  • train operators
  • medical and occupational psychological fitness requirements and recognition process
  • train driver training requirements, examination requirements and recognition process
  • suspending or withdrawing a train driving licence
  • train drivers appealing against decisions made by their employer regarding their train driving certificate

have been added to the Office of Rail and Road website.

The outcome includes a facts leaflet for train drivers and guidance by the Railway Delivery Group on meeting the train driving licences and certificate regulation requirements.

The guides and information were released on 6 June 2019.

Consultation description

The Office of Rail and Road is seeking feedback on its updated and simplified guidance on the Train Driving Licences and Certificates Regulations 2010 (TDLCR). These regulations require all train drivers on the mainline railway to hold a licence and a certificate to drive a train. Our consultation focuses on our first guide in a new suite and deals with the suspension and withdrawal of licences.
