Taking these responses into consideration, alongside the responses from the 2020 consultation and a call for evidence, we will be introducing a statutory licensing scheme for privately kept primates in England.

Consultation description

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) wants to know what you think about the new licensing scheme for privately owned primates in England. This scheme will come under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

We are asking for your opinion on the:

  • details of the scheme
  • new draft standards for care and management of privately owned primates
  • changes to the regulations proposed in the Animal Welfare (Kept Animals) Bill
