Consultation description

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) invites views on the commitments offered by the Parties to address the CMA’s competition concerns in the context of an investigation under the Competition Act 1998.

The CMA investigation relates to long-term exclusive arrangements entered into by The Electric Highway Company Limited (acquired by Gridserve Holdings Limited in June 2021) and Ecotricity Group Limited, and, respectively, each of the following three motorway service area operators: MOTO Hospitality Limited, Roadchef Limited and Extra MSA Property (UK) Limited.

Any person wishing to comment on the proposed commitments should submit written representations to the case team at 51050-Consultation@cma.gov.uk by 5pm on 2 December 2021.

The CMA is particularly interested to hear any views on whether the proposed commitments would address the CMA’s competition concerns regarding future access by chargepoint operators to motorway service areas (including motorway service area operators wishing to operate chargepoints at their sites) whilst securing investment to meet government targets concerning the provision of EV chargepoints.
