Detail of outcome

The outcome of the consultation on how to regulate CO2 emissions from newly registered HDVs following the transition period has been published.

11 responses were received, all from automotive stakeholders or private individuals.

The main decisions arising from the consultation are:

  • agreeing to work with automotive trade bodies to assess the differences between EU and UK heavy-duty vehicles CO2 baselines
  • the amendment of the data reporting requirements on manufacturers in respect to the reporting period 1 January 2019 to 30 June 2020
  • amendment of future data reporting by manufacturers to the Secretary of State in the period 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021

Consultation description

There are plans for a CO2 emissions regulatory scheme for new heavy-duty vehicles registered in the UK after the EU transition period ends.

The scheme will be implemented after the transition period ends on 31 December 2020. It aims to ensure continuity to the regulation of CO2 emissions from new heavy-duty vehicles when they are first registered in the UK.
