The new untraced drivers agreement and the supplementary uninsured drivers agreement will both come into effect on 1 March 2017. The agreements are available from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau.

We have decided to publish a summary of responses to the consultation whilst the department and Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) work out next steps. We will produce a complete government response document at a later stage, following our discussions with the MIB.

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) deals with claims from motorists involved in accidents with uninsured or untraced drivers.
The MIB acts as the insurer of last resort under agreements made with the Department for Transport. These agreements are reviewed from time to time to incorporate any necessary changes.
