Revising railway safety regulations: 1997, 1999 and 2001
Consultation description
Consultation on proposals to recall 3 sets of regulations:
- Railway Safety (Miscellaneous Provisions) Regulations 1997
- Railway Safety Regulations 1999
- Railway Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2001
and replace them with a new set of rules, which would:
- prevent the operation of trains without required protection systems
- introduce a new requirement for the train protection system to ensure safe performance
- prevent the operation of Mark 1 rolling stock unless crash-worthiness improved
- keep a means of emergency communication between the train driver or conductor and passengers
- remove superseded duties and requirements
