Consultation description

Consultation on proposals to recall 3 sets of regulations:

  • Railway Safety (Miscellaneous Provisions) Regulations 1997
  • Railway Safety Regulations 1999
  • Railway Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2001

and replace them with a new set of rules, which would:

  • prevent the operation of trains without required protection systems
  • introduce a new requirement for the train protection system to ensure safe performance
  • prevent the operation of Mark 1 rolling stock unless crash-worthiness improved
  • keep a means of emergency communication between the train driver or conductor and passengers
  • remove superseded duties and requirements
