Detail of outcome

The Autumn Statement 2014 included a commitment to consult on measures to speed up section 106 agreements as part of the government’s commitment to delivering a faster and more effective planning system.

That consultation, which included a question on student accommodation and affordable housing contributions, took place between 20 February and 19 March 2015 and a summary of the responses, and the government’s response, is available here.

The Autumn Statement 2014 included a commitment to consult on measures to speed up section 106 agreements as part of the government’s commitment to delivering a faster and more effective planning system.

We are seeking views on proposals relating to the following 2 areas:

  • speeding up the negotiation and completion of section 106 planning obligations
  • whether the requirement to provide affordable housing contributions acts as a barrier to development providing dedicated student accommodation
