Consultation description
The Special Constabulary form an integral part of the policing family. Special constables perform their duties on a voluntary basis, are crucial in supporting the work of regular officers, and provide a valuable link between the police and local communities.
While performing these duties, special constables may be paid reasonable allowances and expenses for expenditure incurred. It is important that there is clear and appropriate guidance on expenses and allowances rates and criteria.
This consultation contains proposals to update special constable expenses and allowances rates and criteria. It seeks views on whether the proposals are clear, fair and reasonable.
The consultation ran from 11 July to 5 September 2013.
