Original consultation
Consultation description
This consultation seeks feedback on whether all street works permit schemes should comply with amendments to the permit scheme regulations by 1 October 2015.
Those most likely to benefit from responding to this consultation include:
- local councils
- utility companies
- sector representative bodies
as well as bodies representing the full range of road users.
The aim of the Department for Transport’s proposal is to improve consistency across all local councils’ permit schemes in England. Schemes in Wales will still approved by the appropriate national authority.
The Permit Scheme (England) Regulations 2007 have been amended to:
- take account of the plan for permit schemes to be approved by a local authority’s own order rather than by the Secretary of State for Transport in the future
- update the way that street works permit schemes come into effect
