Consultation description

Special Protection Areas (SPAs) are special sites designated under the EU Birds Directive to protect rare, vulnerable and migratory birds.

The proposal for Teesmouth and Cleveland Coast is to:

  • create a new Special Protection Area (SPA) by changing the boundary of the existing SPA
  • include additional areas in the Ramsar site
  • notify the extended Teesmouth and Cleveland Coast site of special scientific interest (SSSI)
  • de-notify parts of the Seal Sands SSSI
