Consultation description

Seeks views on proposals to create a vehicle type approval scheme for Great Britain. This will be a newly established and permanent replacement to the existing interim scheme that came into force at the end of the transition period with the EU.

The scheme proposes to:

  • be the basis for future changes to technical requirements to enable innovation, such as increased vehicle automation
  • extend the existing scheme for road vehicles, motorcycles and tractors to allow for an orderly transition to the full scheme
  • apply the interim scheme to components, trailers and engines for machinery
