Older People’s Housing Taskforce

Government appointed an independent Older People’s Housing Taskforce to look at options for the provision of greater choice, quality and security of housing for older people.

The work of the Older People’s Housing Taskforce has been completed.

Summary and terms of reference

The aim of this taskforce was to look at options for the provision of greater choice, quality and security of housing for older people. The taskforce’s objectives were to examine enablers to increased supply and improving the housing options for older people in later life, and to explore ways to unblock any challenges. The scope of its work focused on public and private specialised and supported older people’s housing, with a particular focus on the private market for those on middle incomes. The scope did not include care homes.

The taskforce was chaired by Professor Emerita of Nursing, Julienne Meyer and the appointed members are listed below.

The taskforce launched in May 2023 and ran for 12 months and submitted its report to Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Department of Health and Social Care on 22 May 2024.
