Spaceflight Safety and Regulatory Council
The Spaceflight Safety and Regulatory Council (SSRC) is a partnership between industry and government bringing together ministers and senior-level stakeholders to ensure the UK’s commercial spaceflight regulations effectively support the growing UK spaceflight market and contribute to the UK's ambition to become a global leader in space.
The Spaceflight Safety and Regulatory Council (SSRC) will be the catalyst for maintaining dialogue and engagement between the government and the sector as they begin to deliver UK-based space operations under the Space Industry Act 2018 and the commercial spaceflight regulations. To achieve this, it will keep review of the:
- Space Industry Act 2018
- Space Industry Regulations 2021
- Spaceflight Activities (Investigations of Spaceflight Accidents) Regulations 2021
- Space Industry (Appeals) Regulations 2021
The objectives of the SSRC are to:
-
provide ministerial and senior industry leadership on efforts to address delivery issues in the UK space sector that are directly impacted by the Space Industry Act 2018 or the commercial spaceflight regulations
-
provide advice, and recommendations on how these issues can be addressed
-
offer a transparent engagement forum for government and the space industry sector to discuss the new commercial spaceflight regulations – including the development, consideration and communication of information
