The Ambassador inaugurates Solar Energy Project in the Quilotoa Community
The project is an initiative of the British Alumni in Ecuador with support from the British Embassy. Using solar energy makes sense in this renowned area of natural beauty.

GREAT Universities Fair in Ecuador
The third ‘GREAT Universities’ fair returned to Ecuador in October. 20 of Britain`s best universities visited Guayaquil, Cuenca and Quito to meet prospective Ecuadorean students. The number of Ecuadorean students going to the UK increased to almost 700 in 2015.

UK Higher Education Mission visits Ecuador
A delegation from the International Unit of UK Higher Education visited Ecuador in September to increase higher education links. Senior academics from 15 UK universities met local universities and ministries.

British Embassy helps the Scouts reforestation day set a new Guinness World Record
For the second year running the British Embassy sponsored the Scouts reforestation project. The Embassy joined the Vice President and the Minister of Environment planting saplings on 16 May. Reforestation Day 2015 set a new Guinness World Record for the highest number of people planting trees at the same time, 44,000 volunteers.

Inauguration of refurbished Sir Winston Churchill statue in Quito
The Ambassador and the Mayor of Quito, Mauricio Rodas, inaugurated the refurbished Winston Churchill statue and roundabout in September. The statue in honour of Sir Winston Churchill is located in Quito`s elegant Gonzales Suarez boulevard.

Annual British Business Networking Event in Quito
The Embassy and the British-Ecuadorean Chamber of Commerce hosted a networking event and introduced the new Ecuadorean Ambassador to the UK.

Cotopaxi Volcano becomes active: advising the British community
The British Embassy organised a briefing event in September for the British community. The new Deputy Head of Mission and Consul, Piers Craven, thanked the Ecuadorean authorities for their help in explaining the risks and the preparations that residents should make.

Baroness Hooper visits Ecuador for 20th Anniversary of British School Quito
Baroness Gloria Hooper visited for the anniversary celebrations of the British School in September. She had officially opened the School in 1995. Baroness Hooper attended the Central University of Ecuador in 1965 and has retained a keen interest in the country since then.

The Ambassador inaugurates Solar Energy Project in the Quilotoa Community
The Ambassador went to Manabí province in June to visit an Embassy project that helps small cocoa farmers increase their earnings. The Ambassador was also invited to name a whale during a visit to Puerto López. He named the whale Shakespeare, looking ahead to the international events that will mark the 400th anniversary of his death in 2016.

Golf is GREAT: Ambassador’s Cup 2015
The Embassy organised the 7th Ambassador’s Cup in Quito in November. This tournament raises funds for good causes in Ecuador, including the Scouts. We expect to donate US$10,000 to the Scouts.
