£250,000 lighting upgrade for A595 around Whitehaven
A £250,000 Highways Agency project to upgrade street lighting along the A595 south of Whitehaven in Cumbria will get underway next week.
The month-long project involves renewing ageing lighting columns and lamps along a mile long section of the route taking in the A595’s junctions with local residential streets and roads such as Inkerman Terrace, Hensingham Road, Ribbon Moor Road and Egremont Road.
The work will start on Monday (3 March) and should be completed by the end of the month.
All the work will be taking place between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day to minimise inconvenience to road users. At times temporary traffic signals will be in place to manage traffic past the roadworks.
Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said:
This is timely maintenance on a lighting system which was installed in 1989 and needs updating to the latest standards which will improve visibility for road users.
