68 outstanding Indonesians and Timorese awarded Chevening Scholarships 2016/2017

British Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN and Timor-Leste, Moazzam Malik, congratulates 68 outstanding Indonesians and Timorese who will shortly depart for the UK to study under the UK Government funded Chevening Scholarship programme.
Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with high levels of leadership potential who also have strong academic backgrounds. The scholarship offers comprehensive financial support to study for a one-year master’s degree at any UK university and the opportunity to become part of an influential global network of 46,000 alumni.
Speaking ahead of the event, hosted at the British Embassy on 1 September 2016, British Ambassador Moazzam Malik has said:
The UK is home to many of the world’s best universities. The Chevening programme enables you to develop academically, professionally, and personally whilst studying in the UK.
Those who are selected for a Chevening Scholarship become recognised leaders in their fields, joining a global network of influencers.
They share the best their country has to offer with those they meet in the UK, and bring the best the UK has to offer back home. The role of Chevening Scholars is important in building bridges, understanding and partnership between our countries.
Also attending the award ceremony will be a number of co-sponsors, as well as alumni from throughout the Chevening programme’s 34 year history.
Applications for 2017 Scholarships opened on 8 August 2016 and will close on 8 November 2016.

Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The scholarships support study at UK universities – mostly one year master’s degrees – for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion formers.

Chevening began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international awards scheme. Chevening Scholars come from over 160 countries and territories worldwide (excluding the USA and the EU). More than 1,500 scholarships were awarded in 2016/2017. There are over 46,000 Chevening Alumni around the world who comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.

The name ‘Chevening’ comes from Chevening House in Sevenoaks, Kent – currently the joint official residence of the UK’s Foreign Secretary.
