A change of heart wins Denbigh man a brand new car
A lucky driver from Denbigh has won a brand new car worth over £10,000 after renewing his vehicle tax online.
A lucky driver from Denbigh changed his mind and decided to tax his car instead of taking it off the road and ended up winning a brand new car worth over £10,000.
Robert Jones, a retired Welsh Water worker, used the DVLA online service to tax his car and entered into a free prize draw to win one of three SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive cars that are given away each month by DVLA, to encourage people to use its telephone and online services to tax or SORN vehicles. He thought no more of it until a few weeks later when he received a letter notifying him that he was one of the lucky winners.
Mr Jones, who was presented with his car at the Pentraeth SEAT dealership in Menai Bridge on 8 July said:
It was lovely to receive such good news because I’d forgotten that I’d entered into the prize draw. The timing was perfect because I was planning to sell my old car to buy a more economical one. I’m so glad that I made the decision to tax the car because I was thinking of taking it off the road until I’d sold it!
Mr Jones is now looking forward to taking to the road in his new car with his wife for their frequent journeys to South Wales to visit his sister.
Mr Jones added:
We do quite a few miles travelling down south visiting relatives and having a car which is so economical will be perfect.

The SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive was chosen for the prize draw because it met DVLA’s criteria (cars provided free of charge for a monthly prize draw, NCAP Safety Standards, low emissions, car tax bands A or B).
The prize draw initiative is part of a marketing strategy, to encourage motorist to use DVLA’s Electronic Vehicle Licensing system, which has won both National and European Business Awards.
