A590 to be resurfaced near Greenodd roundabout
A project to resurface a one-and-a-half-mile stretch of the A590 by Greenodd roundabout is due to begin on Friday 16 January.
The Highways Agency plans to close the road overnight for two weekends to carry out the work. The gullies will also be repaired and road markings will be replaced.
A signed diversion along A roads, suitable for all vehicles including HGVs, will be in place.
Peter Gee, Project Manager at the Highways Agency, said:
This is an essential project that will benefit everyone who uses the stretch of the A590 near Greenodd, making journeys smoother and safer.
We’ll be carrying out the work overnight at weekends, at a time when far fewer people are using the road, to keep the impact to a minimum.
They’ll also be a clearly signed A-road diversion in place for all vehicles, although we understand car drivers may use their local knowledge to find alternative routes.
The A590 will be closed between 8pm and 6am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights between Greenodd roundabout and the junction with the B5278 for Haverthwaite from Friday 16 and Friday 23 January.
The official diversion will follow the A5092, A5084, A593, A591 and A592 through Coniston, Ambleside and Windermere. Signs near junction 36 of the M6 will also warn drivers about the closure.
