Adrienne Kelbie, CBE, appointed as Chair of Nuclear Waste Services
The NDA today announced the appointment of Adrienne Kelbie CBE, as Chair of its new waste division, Nuclear Waste Services. She will take up the inaugural Chair role on 1 January 2022, for a three year term.
NDA CEO, David Peattie, said:
I am delighted by Adrienne’s appointment as the Chair of Nuclear Waste Services. She brings a wealth of cross-sector leadership experience and capability and her professionalism, expertise and values are just what is needed to oversee our new division.
She recognises the critical importance of the NDA’s work to the country, as we deal with the UK’s civil nuclear legacy and our new waste organisation will be fundamental to enhancing the way we deliver waste services.
Nuclear Waste Services CEO Corhyn Parr said:
I am delighted to welcome Adrienne as our first chair of Nuclear Waste Services and look forward to working closely with her. Our role in managing the UK’s nuclear waste innovatively and sustainably is one with many challenges and opportunities and Adrienne will be a huge asset to the organisation and the wider NDA group.
Adrienne Kelbie said:
I am honoured to accept this important role which will help ensure that the nation’s nuclear waste is disposed of safely and as soon and cost effectively as possible. I look forward to supporting the Nuclear Waste Services team to excel as they develop the new organisation to achieve this mission.
Adrienne brings diverse experience in roles across the voluntary, public, and private sector. In 2020, she was awarded the Queen’s Honour, Commander of the British Empire for services to inclusion and nuclear industry.
After two successful terms as the Chief Executive of the Office for Nuclear Regulation, and two terms as Patron of Women in Nuclear UK, she is now focusing on non-executive, consultancy and coaching roles.
The NDA is responsible for the management, decommissioning and clean-up of 17 nuclear sites across the country.
On its launch in January 2022, Nuclear Waste Services will bring together two NDA subsidiaries, Low Level Waste Repository and Radioactive Waste Management and oversee the NDA’s integrated waste programme.
