Alun Cairns appeals to Welsh football fans to be vigilant

Alun Cairns - who is heading to today's Wales v England game - hopes to see "passionate but responsible" support from Euro 2016 fans.

This was published under the 2015 to 2016 Cameron Conservative government

Alun Cairns, Secretary of State for Wales, is attending the Wales v England game.

He said:

Today’s football match should be all about a spirited encounter on the pitch, with passionate but responsible support in the stands.

I am in touch with the Home Office who are liaising with the French Authorities. I have also spoken to the Football Association of Wales about the safety precautions that will be in place to protect Welsh supporters. But I would appeal to Welsh fans to be vigilant, and to avoid any provocation. It goes without saying people should not travel to the area without a ticket to the game.

So good luck Wales, let’s see the fantastic form we witnessed at the weekend - and let’s make today all about great sport.
