An important week for LGBT rights in Taiwan: the British Office is proud to support!
The British Office hosted a performance by the London-based LGBT community choir “Pink Singers” and the Taiwan-based chorus “G-Major”.
Hand in hand with the British Council, the British Office today hosted a performance by the London-based LGBT community choir “Pink Singers” and the Taiwan-based chorus “G-Major”. This coincides with the “Hand-in-Hand – Proud Voices” Festival, the first LGBT Choir Festival to be held in Taiwan. Around 60 guests including legislators, NGOs, representatives from other countries’ offices in Taiwan as well as colleagues from the two offices attended the event, to help celebrate inclusiveness, diversity and human rights.
The Representative, British Office, Mr Chris Wood said: “The British government supports equality for all. Freedom from discrimination is a basic human right, is central to our values and is protected through our laws. In line with our values we are proud to promote equality and human rights around the world, including the rights of minority groups that have historically not received equal treatment.”
Alongside colleagues from the European Economic & Trade Office and other EU member states’ offices, the British Office and British Council will also participate in the Taiwan LGBT Pride Parade tomorrow (31 October), to help raise awareness of the importance of equality and diversity. This is the largest Pride March in the Asia Pacific region. These activities are taken place in solidarity with the LGBT community in Taiwan and everywhere else.
