British Embassy in Ethiopia celebrates anniversary of London 2012
A tree-planting ceremony and open discussion forum was organised to celebrate the anniversary of the London 2012 Games.

The British Embassy and the British Council, in collaboration with the Brazilian Embassy, organised a tree planting ceremony and open discussion forum at Ararat Hotel to celebrate the Anniversary of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games on Tuesday 30 July 2013.
During the anniversary celebration, British-Council-trained Ethiopian “Games-Makers” planted over 200 trees, and, British Ambassador Greg Dorey passed a symbolic baton to Brazilian Ambassador Isabel Azevedo-Heyvaert in the presence of prominent Ethiopian Athletes and media. Brazil will host the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Greg Dorey said:
‘This time last year the world was watching one of the greatest Olympics and Paralympics in living memory. The Games showcased the talent of our athletes, the quality of our venues and our enthusiasm as hosts. The most important legacy that London 2012 can live behind is that it was one of the greenest ever Games. This is why we decided to plant trees in Addis Ababa, to support the country’s vision of greening Ethiopia.’
A key part of the London 2012 bid was the legacy which it would create, focusing: on economic growth, sport and healthy living, communities, the regeneration of East London and a lasting legacy for disabled athletes.
